Health and Safety Coordinator Specialist
At Safety Management and Consultancy Services, Terry has the expertise from his years of experience that complemented his training to give an expert approach to Act in the Role of Health and Safety Project Co-ordinator (HSPC) for either the client or Principal Contractor as required under Regulation 8 of the Management in Construction (Jersey) 2016 Regulations.
When we undertake this role, firstly we, as required, we notify the Health & Safety Inspectorate of Jersey of a Major Construction Project. We will obtain the utilities information for the site. We then will review in detail all approved drawings, structural engineers reports, environmental/ecology/historic information provided.
We will prepare a fully detailed Pre-Construction Phase Plan, not just basic information……..for ourselves, the role is not just documents, it’s about help, therefore, we capture within our documentation everything from the management team, Client and Principal Contractors Obligations, the expected risks and hazards, a work at height strategy and much more – this approach is not to generate paperwork, this approach is to assist Principal Contractors draft their own Construction Phase Plans, and also their risk assessments and method statements. We also obtain all of the utilities information for the property and surrounding area to assist the Principal Contractor.
And whilst not a specific requirement of the role of the HSPC, with Terry’s experience, he is able to offer guidance and support in areas of Health and Safety to the client or Principal Contractor as required – again, clear, and concise support help keeps sites safe.
Also with extensive asbestos management experience, including training contractors in the safe removal protocols of non-licensed asbestos, he can support and advise clients or Principal Contractors and both the requirements of having a Refurbishment and Demolition Asbestos Survey as required if the building is of pre-2000 construction. Given he takes part of his role is to review the asbestos survey, should any presence of asbestos be detected in the property he can guide the client and contractors through the safe removal methods in line with Jersey Asbestos Regulations
